FC Dallas has acquired Osaze Urhoghide via transfer from Ligue 2 side Amiens SC and signed the defender to a four-year contract through 2028 with a one-year club option for 2029. He will occupy an international roster slot, pending receipt of his P-1 visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC).
Urhoghide's transfer represents the highest transfer fee ever paid for a defender in FC Dallas history. Early reports suggested the fee was upward of $3m.
The 24-year old played for Amiens in Ligue 2, the second tier of French soccer, from 2023 to 2025. He made 41 appearances for the club across the Coupe de France and Ligue 2. In August 2024, he scored his first professional goal in a 3-0 win over Red Star FC.
In 2021, Urhoghide signed with Scottish powerhouse Celtic FC. He made his debut in a UEFA Europa League match against Real Betis on Dec. 9, 2021. Urhoghide spent the 2022-23 season with the now-defunct Belgian club KV Oostende, making 36 appearances.
Originally from the Netherlands, Urhoghide moved to England as a child. He began his professional career at AFC Wimbledon before joining Sheffield Wednesday in 2019, where he made 21 appearances for the club.
Quick Thoughts
Yes, this was the signing that I tossed a little bit of cold water on last Monday in our weekly newsletter. At the time, I didn't feel confident with the limited sources out there talking about this move. It happens but I am glad this one finally got across the finish line as it got held up for most of last week at the league front office.
Urhoghide is the type of signing that you want to see FC Dallas make here as they rebuild their defense from last season. He's young, comes from quality teams overseas and could be the exact player that the club needs. As you'll see below, he brings some atheltic quality to the defense that is definitely needed this season.
Osaze Urhoghide looks set to join FC Dallas in a move estimated around €2M-3M. With only 2 senior CBs on the roster, this could be a great addition for Dallas. Urhoghide looks to be Dallas' main defensive reinforcement in a backline that needs strengthening. #DTID #scouting #MLS #FCDallas

While I think the French League 2 is a pretty decent league, I do wonder how it will translate into success in MLS. But, defensively, I do like what I see from him.
The reported price tag however is something I'm a tad concerned with here. While he is the TAM-player I've been wanting to see the club sign for a couple of seasons, I do have concerns with how quickly he'll be able to come in and earn a starting spot.
Aside from that, FC Dallas still has some depth issues in the defense to sort out before the start of the season next week in Houston. They still need another center back for depth purposes and a left back to slot in behind Marco Farfan. The clock is ticking on both moves.
