FC Dallas’ September roster profile landed with the rest of the league’s on Thursday morning, and on the surface it reads like a club that made small, sensible moves during the summer transfer window.
As you dig into it next to the previous edition back in the spring, though, a tighter story begins to emerge: the Hoops are running low on the two things a mid-table needs most in MLS…roster flexibility and spending money.
Let’s dive in.
The slots are full
For starters, the club is staying on the U22 model, which has been their thing for the last couple of seasons now. Back in February/March, the club actually had five U22 players on the books with Ran Binyamin, Patrickson Delgado, Geovane Jesus, Kaick and Enes Sali.
As of today, the club now has four U22s, with Daniel Job coming in as the new one and Sali being sold in the summer transfer window.
FC Dallas has waived defender Geovane Jesus. Jesus has cleared waivers and will continue his rehabilitation with FC Dallas.
Back to the report, Job is the fresh new face. Dallas spent big money to land him last month. The downer is, as of this writing, he hasn’t even arrived in Frisco due to paperwork and Visa-related reasons (I’m told the club hopes to have him here by the end of the month).
With that group set, there is no room to add another young project without selling or shifting one out first. They also cannot add a new Designated Player to the mix as this roster model only allows for two DPs.
The one thing that could change going into next year’s Sprint Season…is if they club decides not to bring Santiago Moreno back on a permanent transfer.
The problem for FC Dallas is what’s left in the account to do the spending.
Where the money went
As of the February snapshot, FC Dallas had roughly $1.576,731 in available 2026 GAM to work with. As of today’s report, that figure sits just below $900k. Let’s call it roughly $687k in GAM spent this season.
That’s the 2026 story, and if we’re being honest, it’s mid-pack at best.
But the more revealing number lives in 2027 for FC Dallas.
Our friend Arman Kafai dug into FCD’s future commitments that have been reported and found something even more surprising (and rather frustrating to a degree): Dallas has committed nearly $950k in GAM for 2027.

For me, Dallas went from looking thrifty to looking stretched. While we don’t know how these GAM numbers will factor once MLS shifts their calendar next year, you do get a sense that the club has opted to try and plan ahead for 2027 with this spending.
The club quietly mortgaged next year’s flexibility for the Sprint Season on a few smaller long-term pieces and two goalkeepers. It remains to be seen how this will affect the 2027-28 season that begins next summer.
