We went into this week saying that it could be a very interesting one for FC Dallas. After Monday’s half-day trade window came and went without any major news for the club, it appeared that we wouldn’t see any big fireworks.

Well, that is all about to change. In a massive way.

According to Sounder at Heart, the Seattle Sounders are in advanced talks to acquire FC Dallas Homegrown forward Jesus Ferreira through a trade.

The Seattle Sounders are in serious talks with FC Dallas about acquiring Jesus Ferreira in a trade, sources have told Sounder at Heart. It was not immediately clear what the Sounders would be giving up in the move, but it is believed that it hinges on their ability to sign the 23-year-old forward to a contract extension. Ferreira, who is currently classified as a Young Designated Player, is currently in the final guaranteed year of his contract with an option for 2026.

The 2024 season was a large letdown for Ferreira, as he had only five goals and six assists in 1,400 minutes of play.

The 23-year old now has 53 goals and 34 assists in his MLS career, in addition to 15 goals in 23 appearances with the United States national team.

We will continue reporting as this story unfolds.

Quick BDS Thoughts

Okay, wow.

I was not expecting to wake up on this chilly Wednesday morning to this news. I know it broke late last night, so there has been some time for some of you to think through it a bit.

Honestly, I think this means FC Dallas hasn’t had any viable transfer offers for Ferreira since earlier this year when MLS turned down his move to Russia. Ferreira appeared to be frustrated this season when he wasn’t out dealing with injuries. We have been tossing around the idea that he could be moved this winter if the move was right.

Also, this feels very similar to what we saw go down a few years back with Kellyn Acosta. At some point a player like this, even if he has been with the organization for years, needs a change of scenery to get his career going again. For Acosta, he went from being traded to Colorado, to traded to LAFC in a move that helped earn him some hardware.

I don’t love the idea of trading a player to a conference rival like this, but Seattle appears to be the one offering the money to make it happen. We will have to wait and see what kind of allocation package comes in for him in this deal. It isn’t every day that a Designated Player gets traded in MLS after all, so this should be a fairly large deal.

Where will FC Dallas go from here? Honestly, moving one expensive piece of the roster like this opens the doors for a lot of possibilities this winter. I felt they were right on target with how aggressive they needed to be with their expansion draft protection list yesterday, so it is possible this is the first of many dominoes to fall with Eric Quill in charge.
