FC Dallas closed out its 2026 road slate the way so many have gone, one kick away from more and left holding a little bit less than it should. FC Dallas drew Sporting Kansas City 1-1 on Halloween Day, and the trick was all theirs to spoil when Petar Musa stepped up to a stoppage-time penalty to win it before Sporting keeper Stefan Cleveland came up big with a save.
The first portion of the game was pure Dallas at its best with an early goal off a counter attack, when Santiago Moreno sprung Ran Binyamin behind the Sporting defense. The Israeli midfielder took a couple dribbles before finding Herman Johansson inside the penalty area for an easy finish. It was Johansson’s first goal in a Dallas uniform.
The hosts tied the game up right before halftime off a set piece from outside the penalty area. Owen Wolff found an open Jansen Miller at the back post, who tied the game up before the break.
Both teams traded chances in the second half with Jonathan Sirois coming up big on a couple of Andre Luiz chances inside the penalty area. But the big talking point will likely be Musa’s penalty miss at the end of the game.
Key Moments
19’ - GOOOAL! FC Dallas breaks the ice on the game with a goal in transition. Jonathan Sirois found Daniel Job in the midfield after saving a corner kick. Job connected with Santiago Moreno who then finds Ran Binyamin behind the Sporting defense, the Israeli took a couple of dribbles before laying it off for Herman Johansson for his first goal of the season.
22’ - Job nearly doubles the lead! Another good buildup near the Sporting goal between Joaquin Valiente and Job. This time Job gets the ball and hits a shot that goes just over the crossbar.
34’ - Big save by Sirois! Andre Luiz gets the ball in a dangerous spot inside the Dallas penalty area, but his chance wasn’t strong enough to best the Dallas keeper.
45+2’ - Goal SKC. A late foul by Lalas Abubakar sets up a free kick from outside the penalty area. Owen Wolff found Jansen Miller at the back post wide open with a header before the half.
72’ - Decent chance from Dallas on a corner kick. Valiente finds Abubakar at the back post but the veteran’s header goes wide.
77’ - Big chance missed wide right. Finally some decent build up play by Dallas as Musa and Kaick do a give and go in the penalty area but Kaick’s attempt gets pulled wide.
90+4’ - Big chance in the final minute, Dallas had a shout for a handball in the penalty box. After a minute the ref stops play to go to the video monitor for review. It was determined to be a penalty!
90+7’ - MISS. Wow. Cleveland gets a paw on Musa’s attempt and keeps the game level.

Instant Reaction
Geez, what a waste of a week. First the Columbus game was a total bust on Wednesday and then this one followed it.
Dallas had a couple of moments, but never truly looked threatening outside of Johansson’s goal. The late penalty was a gift that should have been cashed in, but Musa’s penalty was not his best taken that we’ve seen this season.
Now we have to scoreboard watch a bit for the rest of the weekend to see what kind of result we’ll need at home next weekend against Colorado.
About the Subs
After halftime, Petar Musa came on for Santiago Moreno. With about 20 minutes to go, Bernard Kamungo and Chris Cappis came on for Ramiro and Herman Johansson. Ten minutes later, Eric Quill brought on Sam Sarver for Daniel Job. In stoppage time, Anderson Julio came on for Joaquin Valiente.
Man of the Match
We’ll go with Sirois for his efforts in goal, with three big saves on the day.
Where does this fit into the season
The draw does keep Dallas in second place, with 55 points, but it also ends Dallas’ chance at catching Vancouver for first place in the Western Conference.
St. Louis lost on the afternoon as well, so now we wait to see how San Jose and Houston do this weekend to see whether or not we’ll be sweating things out on Decision Day next Saturday.
What’s next for FC Dallas
FC Dallas wraps up the regular season next week on November 7 with a Decision Day battle against the Colorado Rapids.
