FC Dallas left it late on Saturday night, but when they found goals, they came in a hurry as they downed the San Jose Earthquakes 3-0 at Toyota Stadium.
All three goals came after the 80th minute after Dallas dominated the majority of the match. The first came on a counter-attack set up by Santiago Moreno in the 83rd minute. The Colombian played a long ball up the field to Bernard Kamungo who did the hard work to set up Petar Musa at the top of the penalty box. The Croatian did the rest with what was then his 21st of the season.
Five minutes later, another long ball up the field helped create the second goal, as Kaick was brought down in the penalty box by Paul Marie. Musa stepped up to the penalty spot and hammered home another goal.
With the lead in hand, Dallas got a third in stoppage time from Moreno to help ice the game and wrap up its eighth shutout of the season.
Key Moments
28’ - BIG SAVE! Bouda gets a counter attack play as he breaks away from Osaze Urhoghide, but Daniel is there to make a massive stop in a one-on-one situation.

31’ - First good attempt on the night for Dallas as Kamungo crosses the ball into Musa. The Croatian laid it off for Johansson but the Swede’s attempt on goal isn’t enough to beat Gunn.
35’ - Job getting a crack on goal. The speedster got the ball on the wing and then cuts in centrally and takes a dribble before firing his first shot of the night at the near post. Gunn comes up big once again for San Jose.
38’ - Another good chance inside the penalty box. Musa sets up Valiente but he over hits his chance.
43’ - The shots continue to happen as the Dallas press forces a bad turnover but Job’s attempt goes high. That was certainly the one that Dallas should have converted.
83’ - GOOOOOAALLL!!! Finally a breakthrough with a long ball from Moreno to Kumango, who then takes a great touch to get a defender to miss before finding Musa for his 21st goal of the season!
87’ - PENALTY! Kaick causes some issues in the penalty box and draws a penalty.
88’ - GOAL!!! MUSA!! Make it two!
90+4’ - GOOOOALL!!! Moreno adds a third!

Instant Reaction
This one certainly had the makings of being a really frustrating scoreless draw and in the final moments, Dallas finally finished their chances. Eric Quill mentioned after the game in his press conference that this may have been one of the most complete games of the season from his club, and I think he’s right.
Naturally, it wasn’t always pretty, but the result in the end is what this group needed with three games to go.
About the Subs
Quill went to his bench for the first time in the 65th minute, as he brought on Santiago Moreno for Joaquin Valiente. After waiting a few extra minutes on the sideline, in the 77th minute, Quill had two more subs with Patrickson Delgado and Ran Binyamin came on for Herman Johansson and Daniel Job. Following Musa’s second goal, Chris Cappis came on for him in the 89th minute.
Man of the Match
Two goals, another brace. It is easy tonight, Musa.
Where does this fit into the season
One big note from this one is that FC Dallas has now broke its single-season goal scoring mark with 56 goals. The win tonight helps, at least for the time being, put Dallas into second place in the Western Conference.
What’s next for FC Dallas
We will have another double-game week coming up, first with the Columbus Crew coming to Frisco on Wednesday, October 28. Then, next Saturday on Halloween, Dallas will travel north to battle Sporting Kansas City.
