All good things come to an end eventually. For the first 60 minutes of Saturday’s game in North Carolina, it looked as though FC Dallas was on their way to extend their unbeaten run to seven before Charlotte FC came from behind and downed Dallas 3-2.

The first half saw FC Dallas take control with Logan Farrington’s 10th goal of the season. Herman Johansson whipped in a ball from the wing and Farrington slid on the wet turf to score the game’s opening goal.

Then in the second half, Petar Musa came off the bench and immediately made an impact by scoring his 19th of the season on a cross from Santiago Moreno. The goal broke FC Dallas’ single-season goal scoring record.

But Charlotte charged back with two quick goals in the 70th and 74th minute, with Kerwin Toklomati finding the first of his two goals on the night. Pep Biel set up the second on a corner kick that was headed before he set up the game-winner to Toklomati in stoppage time.

Key Moments

22’ - GOAL! Farrington nets his 10th of the season! Johansson got the ball on the wing and sent a perfect ball into the penalty area where Farrington dove feet first to hit it into the back of the net.

70’ - Goal Charlotte. Ibeagha loses track of Toklomati inside the penalty area as Saint-Maximin gets around a pair of Dallas defenders. Saint-Maximin quickly finds Toklomati for an easy tap in.

74’ - Goal Charlotte. And we’re tied. Toffolo heads in a corner kick from Biel to level the game.

85’ - Huge save by Daniel! Saint-Maximin gets an open look on goal but Daniel is there to push it wide.

90+3’ - Goal Charlotte. Wow, what a defensive blunder this has been. Toklomati wide open to score a game-winner off a pass from Biel.

Sometimes you can say this is a cruel game where if you don’t truly put away a team, bad things can happen. That was the case tonight for FC Dallas who did look to be the better of the two teams for the opening 60 minutes or so.

But the defensive collapse late in this one is going to be tough to rewatch. Too many open runs into the penalty area, and too many easy tap ins. Let’s hope this isn’t a sign of things to come this month.

About the Subs

After halftime, Eric Quill went to his bench for the first time by bringing on Sebastien Ibeagha for Lalas Abubakar. At the hour mark, Petar Musa and Santiago Moreno came on for Logan Farrington and Patrickson Delgado. Shortly after Charlotte tied the game, Bernard Kamungo came on for Herman Johansson. In the 84th minute, Daniel Job came off the bench to replace Joaquin Valiente.

Man of the Match

Give it to Musa. Give it to Farrington. Sure.

Where does this fit into the season

The loss is going to hurt a bit as we’re now going to be scoreboard watching a bit more this weekend. We’re going to stay on 47 points for another day, while teams like St. Louis, San Jose and Houston can all make a move on Dallas in the standings.

What’s next for FC Dallas

FC Dallas will return home for a busy week, as they host Seattle on Wednesday, September 14 before hitting the road next weekend to battle Texas Derby rivals Houston on September 17.
