FC Dallas picked up its first win since coming off the World Cup break on Wednesday night, a 2-0 win over Liga MX side Queretaro FC in the first match of the 2026 Leagues Cup.

Goalkeeper Jonathan Sirois picked up his second straight shutout and his second straight game recording nine saves.

Dallas dominated the second half of this one after a scoreless opening 45 at Texas Health Mansfield Stadium. Santiago Moreno opened up the scoring two minutes into the second half on a rebound shot after Bernard Kamungo forced the Queretaro‘s keeper into making a save. Joaquin Valiente doubled the effort later in the half to give Dallas some breathing room.

Key Moments

17’ - Avila gets an early look for Queretaro. A good cross comes in from the side and Avila hits a quick shot that forces Sirois into his first save of the night.

25’ - Another stop from Sirois, this time due to a turnover in the midfield. Homenchenko got a clean look on goal from the top of the penalty box, but his shot was straight at Sirois.

41’ - Big chance for Dallas! Valiente curled in a ball from a corner kick that met Urhoghide’s head, but the Queretaro keeper was there to make the diving save at the door step. Musa tries to put away the rebound but he makes another stop.

47’ - GOAL! Moreno scores the first goal of the night! The Dallas counter got things going on this one as Musa found Kamungo running up the wings. Kumguno took a couple of dribbles before firing a shot on goal that the keeper pushed away but right to Moreno’s feet. The Colombian calmly hit the rebound into the back of the net.

The Dallas captain dribbled the ball up before playing it back to Valiente at the top of the penalty area. Valiente took one touch before ripping a shot that hit the post and into the back of the net.

Instant Reaction

I’m still not super excited about the Leagues Cup, but a win is a win. This group needed it after coming out of the World Cup break with two draws and a loss. The opening 45 felt like more of what we’ve seen in recent weeks, but the second half felt like a return to form in a way for this group. The next two games are going to be massively more difficult against Chivas and Toluca, but this game has to be a nice confidence boost.

About the Subs

Quill had to go to his bench early in this one when Anderson Julio came up with an injury 20 minutes into the match. He brought on Petar Musa in his place. After halftime, Quill replaced Clay Holstad with Kaick. Later in the second half, Quill made a double substitution in the 74th minute when he brought on Patrickson Delgado and Shaq Moore for Santiago Moreno and Herman Johansson. The last sub came in the 80th minute as Ramiro checked in for Chris Cappis.

Man of the Match

For the second straight game, Jonathan Sirois came up huge with nine saves. A lot of the shots were straight at home on the night, but he was ready for the test.

Where does this fit into The Leagues Cup

Dallas earns all three points on the night and the shutout. For now, that puts them in 5th place in the MLS standings for the Leagues Cup with two games to play.

What’s next for FC Dallas

FC Dallas heads back out west to San Jose as they 'host' Chivas in the next match of the Leagues Cup on Saturday.
