After being handed the job in goal last week against San Diego due to injury, Jonathan Sirois went and made the job his own on Saturday night. The Canadian keeper turned in a career-high nine saves in Southern California, earning his first shutout in a Dallas uniform and dragged FC Dallas to a 0-0 draw against the LA Galaxy.
Both sides traded attempts on goal, with Dallas getting a few decent looks on goal with Petar Musa and Patrickson Delgado finding their moments. But the Galaxy, with Marco Reus and Joseph Painstil kept Sirois busy all night, including a couple of key stops in the first half off a Reus free kick.
The clean sheet was Dallas’ fourth of the season, and first since the beginning of May.

4’ - Good start from Dallas as Cappis picks off a pass in the Galaxy defensive end and then sends in a cross to Musa inside the penalty box. LA’s keeper comes off his line and makes a big stop.

54’ - Good chance from Delgado on a free kick, but his attempt goes straight to the near post and into the keeper’s hands.
90’ - Another big save from Sirois! After a clearance off a Galaxy corner, the ball got pegged around into the penalty box before another attempt on goal from Jakob Glesnes that forced Sirois to make a leaping save.

Instant Reaction
Defensively, this is about as good as Dallas has played in a long while. LA got several clean looks on goal but Sirois was up to the challenge. The attack had four big chances, but most came early in the game. The subs didn’t seem to make the impact that Quill was looking for in the attack, which still makes me wonder why he hasn’t gone back to adding Sam Sarver late in games.
About the Subs
Quill went to his bench in the 66th minute to try and bring on some attacking flair with Santiago Moreno and Anderson Julio, who replaced Patrickson Delgado and Logan Farrington. He then added two more subs in the 79th minute, with Sebastien Ibeagha replacing Herman Johansson and Clay Holstad making his FCD debut in place of Chris Cappis.

There isn’t really a debate in this one, Sirois got the shutout and made nine saves in the process.
Where does this fit into the season
With the draw and some other results in MLS (mostly Houston winning), Dallas is now tied on points with Real Salt Lake with 27. The Western Conference continues to be really tight as eight points separate 4th place and 13th.
What’s next for FC Dallas
FC Dallas continues its summer on the road continues next week, as they begin their Leagues Cup journey with games in Mansfield against Querétaro on Wednesday before heading back out west to San Jose to take on Chivas on Saturday.
