After nine straight games on the road, FC Dallas is returning home in September.
Five matches are on the schedule this month, with four Saturday matches coming at home in Frisco. The lone road trip sees FC Dallas go back out on the road after this coming weekend for a midweek match next week in Minnesota.
The schedule will still feel congested early on, with three games in eight days to open the month. But compared to what Dallas endured in August, this almost feels like a relief. More importantly, September provides exactly what a team entering the stretch run needs: a chance to stop worrying about airports and start stacking points at home.
Sporting KC - home - September 5
I don’t want to call this a trap game, but damn, it kind of feels like it easily could be. FC Dallas returns home against the worst team in MLS, who has been drastically overhauling its roster in recent weeks. They’re still in that ‘we don’t know who we are’ phase of that roster transition, but Dallas can’t rest on them being the worst in the league right now. This is a tone setter. Win this and the good vibes return to Frisco quickly.

Minnesota United - away - September 9
Four days after the first home game in nearly three months, FC Dallas goes back out on the road. Yeah, the schedule is truly weird like that. The Loons have been one of those Western Conference teams capable of making life miserable for Dallas. With another game at home three days later, this one will be tricky for both clubs. Quality rotation will be key.

Portland Timbers - home - September 12
Another team in transition of sorts is Portland. Dallas did just face them recently at the end of July and came away with a draw in that meeting. It was a disappointing draw to say the least as they entered the final minutes with a 2-1 lead. Thankfully, Portland just sold its best player and have a new coach that is figuring things out on the fly.

Austin FC - home - September 19
After a few weeks of congested schedules, FC Dallas finally gets back to a week with time to prep and rest before a rivalry game. After picking up a win in Austin last month, Dallas has the advantage in the Copa Tejas standings at the moment. A win in this match could lock it up for them in 2026 (both Houston and Austin have played more in this and each only have 3 points to FCD’s 6). This one feels like it could be a statement game when it is all said and done. Let’s hope it is a good statement.

LAFC - home - September 26
The home-heavy month concludes with a team that will be the biggest test for FC Dallas when LAFC comes to Frisco. By this stage of the season, both clubs should have a clear understanding of what’s at stake and we could even see an early playoff preview in this one. Dallas outplayed LAFC in their building back in March, but came out empty handed. Eric Quill still talks about that game and I think this is a chance to get revenge.

Outlook
If August was about survival, September has to be about accumulation for FC Dallas.
Four home matches give you the chance at 12 points, which is a massive gift at this point in the schedule. The opening stretch is a bit demanding, but those are three games this team can and should win. For me, it will be all about this group not playing down to their competition and actually grind out the points in the process.
With limited travel involved this month, Dallas has to take advantage of that.
I’d set the bar for September at 10 points out of 15. I think anything less would be a disappointment after how the nine-game road trip went. Ten to 12 points gives you a real shot at hosting a playoff series, too. Plus, locking up Copa Tejas early would be a cherry on top.
