The Numbers Behind FC Dallas’ draw vs Houston Dynamo
Published:

There was no shortage of drama in Saturday night’s Texas Derby. FC Dallas should still feel like they should have walked away with all three points, but the draw will still see them win the Derby series for 2026.

This one had a bit of everything from the early goal, a penalty kick that had to be retaken, a goal overturned by VAR and two stoppage-time penalties, Dallas experienced just about every possible emotion in the 2-2 draw.

Let’s dive into the stats for how this one played out.

xG Battle/Attacking numbers

Despite the Dynamo controlling the possession game for most of the night, Dallas was the more dangerous attacking side. The Burn generated more shots, created better scoring chances, and consistently found ways to threaten Houston’s penalty area. Unfortunately, there were too many missed moments that could have swung this one in the right direction for Eric Quill’s side.

Dallas finished with four more shots, five more shots on target and had twice as many touches inside the Houston penalty area.

That last number is particularly telling for Dallas. They registered 38 touches inside the Dynamo penalty area, compared to just 18 for the hosts. Despite spending less time on the ball, Dallas found ways to get into more dangerous attacking positions.
