The month of April saw FC Dallas on the road for three of four games, but as Eric Quill called it, the gauntlet will continue into the month of May.
Coming up will be six league games and potentially two US Open Cup games that we know the club will likely take serious, given their founder’s name is on the trophy.
Let’s dive into the schedule to see where the points could come in what could be a make or break month for the club.

San Diego FC - away - May 3
Coming up this weekend is our first meeting ever with expansion side San Diego FC. Mikey Varas’ club looked like they were going to not be another typical expansion club when they downed LAFC and Seattle earlier this year. But, three straight defeats going into this match shows that teams are figuring them out.
AV Alta FC - USOC - home - May 7
The 2025 USOC run begins next week at home against a USL League One side that has made a pretty solid run so far in this tournament. This one feels like a good game to throw out some younger players to help give some veteran players a bit of a rest. But, you still need to see a win here. You cannot be that upset of the Cup.
Real Salt Lake - home - May 10
Next weekend sees FC Dallas back home in league play for back-t0-back weeks. This will be the third road game in a row for RSL when they come to Frisco. They’ll be a bit of a different club than the one we saw a few weeks ago in Utah. For starters, they’ve picked up a pair of former Sporting KC guys in Willy Agada and Johnny Russell.
Houston Dynamo - home - May 17
The second leg of the Texas Derby is finally upon us as well. As we all recall, FC Dallas got the better end of the Dynamo to start the regular season. A win or draw here will help FCD retain El Capitan for another season, and also give the club a big leg up on Houston and Austin in the Copa Tejas race for this year.
Like Dallas, keep an eye on the Dynamo’s USOC run this month as well. They too could be dealing with a match directly after this one on the road.
Seattle Sounders - away - May 24
After some home cooking, FC Dallas heads back out on the road in league play for a pair of really tough matches, starting with a trip to Washington. FC Dallas has yet to win in Seattle since the 2011 season.
If there was ever a season to end that drought at Lumen Field, it could be this one.
FC Cincinnati - away - May 28
Following that will be another Wednesday night game, in Ohio. FC Dallas makes its first trip to TQL Stadium. As of this writing, Lucho Acosta’s former club is leading the Eastern Conference with a solid 7-2-1 record. If Miami was a tough road trip this past weekend, Cincinnati may end up being tougher (their stars will likely play).
Philadelphia Union - home - May 31
To wrap up the month, FC Dallas returns home to battle the Union. Bradley Carnell’s club has been a bit of a surprise this season, as they’ve become one of the more stout defensive teams in the league (a +10 goal differential, nine goals given up as of this writing). Offensively, they’ve also found some life with Tai Baribo.

Outlook
Once again May is a massive month for FC Dallas. For those keeping score at home, that is six league games and potentially two US Open Cup games.
We’ve seen in previous years where the club has been able to handle it and head into the summer with a nice spot in the standings, and then we’ve seen other years where May pretty much kills the team due to all the matches.
Given the way the team has played on the road so far this season, there is a bit more hope that this group can handle the extra load, especially if they’re going on another three-game trip toward the end of the month with a USOC roadie ahead of that Seattle-Cincinnati doubleheader. Oof.
But once again, the home games are going to be extremely critical for this team. Quill and his staff have to figure out a way to get Fortress Frisco back in their corner, something that has not happened so far in 2025.
I want to feel confident in this group to continue to get results. I think out of the 18 total possible points, a 10-12 point month isn’t too far out of reach for this group. What do you all think is doable this month for FC Dallas? Let’s discuss it below.
