For over three months, FC Dallas had been waiting to come home to Toyota Stadium.
Then, within the first 20 minutes of the return on Saturday night, it looked like they might have picked the worst possible way to celebrate their homecoming to Frisco.
Sporting Kansas City jumped out to an early two-goal lead, stunning a Dallas side playing its first match in Frisco since mid-May. After spending the majority of the summer bouncing from city to city, country to country, hotels to buses, and from one road match to the next, Dallas had finally made it back home.
And promptly dug itself into a massive hole.
What followed was one of the wildest games of the 2026 season, yet. And we’ve had some wild ones this year.
Within a two minute span, FC Dallas erased the two-goal deficit, eventually took the lead before halftime, only to surrender the lead midway through the second half before the club found a final answer through Petar Musa to claim a 4-3 win in front of its home supporters for the first time since early May.
“We spotted them two goals,” head coach Eric Quill said afterward. “To come back on a night like tonight, after being away from home, to have that happen in the first 10 minutes was tough to take and swallow.”
Quill has talked repeatedly in recent weeks about the resilience of his group, particularly during the club’s lengthy stretch away from Toyota Stadium. Saturday provided perhaps the clearest example yet.
“They keep proving themselves again and again that they’re never going to turn over and die,” Quill said. “They’re going to roll their sleeves up and find a way.”
One of the club’s goal scorers on the night, Logan Farrington, was less charitable about the opening 20 minutes.
“I thought the first 10 to 15 minutes were horrible for us,” he said. “It was probably the worst start we could have had coming back, especially in front of our fans.”
But those fans would ultimately play a major role in helping Dallas turn the night around and pushing the team to get the job done.
“We needed our fans tonight,” Quill said. “I’m going to say thank you to our fans because that’s how you come back home. This is what home crowds do for you. They give you that life after you score a goal, and they brought us back.”
