FC Dallas secured its second straight road win following the Leagues Cup in wild fashion on Wednesday night, downing Real Salt Lake 4-3.

Ran Binyamin scored the game-winner in the 90th minute after Petar Musa scored a first-half brace to extend his MLS Golden Boot lead to 16 goals. With his goals, he becomes the fifth player in MLS history to have 15 goals in each of his first three season with a MLS club. Joaquin Valiente scored his first MLS goal to star the scoring on the night for both clubs.

Real Salt Lake made this one interesting, after being down 3-1 at halftime, the hosts came back with two quick goals in the early stages of the second half. Sergi Solans scored RSL’s first goal of the evening in the 38th minute. Morgan Guilavogui and Diego Luna added goals of their own after halftime.

Key Moments

17’ - GOAL! Valiente gets us started with a great goal from distance. His first MLS goal with FC Dallas. A nice combination from Ramiro and Moreno at the top of the penalty area opens up space for Valiente to curl a shot in from distance.

20’ - GOAL! MUSA! This time it is Valiente who sets up Musa for his 15th of the season! Great header by the Croatian!

Instant Reaction

Talk about leaving it late. This instant reaction section had a slightly different tone to it before Binyamin opened up and sent us home with three points. In a way, this felt like it could have been an early preview of a playoff series between these two clubs. A lot of action. Not a lot of defense due to how many games each side has played this month in league play and in the Leagues Cup.

Still, Dallas is treating this nine-game road trip with some solid play (they’re currently 4-1-2 with two games to play on it).

About the Subs

After the halftime break, Quill went to his bench to make a double sub by bringing Logan Farrington and Ran Binyamin on for Petar Musa and Santiago Moreno. In the 56th minute, Chris Cappis came on for Kaick. In the 69th minute, Sebastien Ibeagha came on for Herman Johansson. The final sub came in the 84th minute, when Sam Sarver relieved Bernard Kamungo.

Man of the Match

Musa was clearly the dominant man in the first half. I don’t blame Quill for subbing him though, I would prefer to have him as fresh as possible for Vancouver on Saturday.

Where does this fit into the season

The win pushes Dallas to 33 points on the season, but that keeps them only in 5th place.

What’s next for FC Dallas

The final match of a triple-game week comes this weekend when FC Dallas heads back to Canada to battle the Vancouver Whitecaps.
