The Leagues Cup may have been what FC Dallas needed this summer. Logan Farrington came off the bench and scored the game-winning goal, while Jonathan Sirois added another shutout to his tally to give FC Dallas a 1-0 win on Saturday night at PayPal Park against Chivas de Guadalajara.
Dallas held Chivas to four shots on target for the night en route to their third straight shutout in all competitions.
The game-winner had a familiar flare to it for Dallas, off the counter attack with Kaick finding Petar Musa. The Croatian found his fellow Designated Player, Santiago Moreno, inside the penalty area as he quickly laid it off to Farrington, who did the rest.
Key Moments
25’ - After conceding a lot of possession in the early stages, FC Dallas finally settled into the game and got their first look on goal with a shot from Kaick at the top of the penalty box. His shot ended up being just over the crossbar.
48’ - Chivas starts off the second half with a quick chance on goal that forces Sirois to make a couple of quick saves.
59‘ - Chivas continues to get chances in this one. This time it is Ledezma who forces a save from Sirois.
68‘ - Sirois comes up big again! This time it is on an attempt at the center of the penalty box from Castañeda.
70’ - SO CLOSE! After forcing a turnover inside the Chivas penalty area, Musa gets around the keeper from close range but his shot hits off the post and goes out of play.
72’ - GOAL!! Farrington makes the breakthrough Dallas was looking for! After a turnover, Dallas has number in the penalty area as Kaick found Musa near the top of the penalty box. After Musa dribbled through a couple defenders he laid it off for Moreno. The Columbian took a smart touch quickly to an open Farrington, who then took a moment to fake a defender out before putting the ball on his left foot for an easy goal!

Maybe I soured on the Leagues Cup too soon for FC Dallas. Sure, this wasn’t exactly an amazing performance by the club, but getting a result like this one the road does do wonders for a team like this. Or maybe, they just love playing at PayPal Park this season.
Either way you spin it, this is six points in the Leagues Cup with two shutouts. The defense rotation that Eric Quill has found in this tournament is working out well and the attack seems to be finding just enough juice to get the job done on their end.
About the Subs
After halftime, Quill went to his bench to bring on Chris Cappis and Santiago Moreno to replace Ramiro and Sam Sarver. In the 66th minute, he did another double-sub by bringing on Logan Farrington and Osaze Urhoghide for Sebastien Ibeagha and Joaquin Valiente. The final sub came in the 82nd minute as Ran Binyamin came on for Petar Musa.

It is hard not to give it to Sirois again for his efforts in goal.
