An early goal from Lucho Acosta, along with Kaick's first goal helped guide FC Dallas to a 3-1 victory over USL League One side AV Alta FC in the Round of 32 in the 2025 US Open Cup.

The win sees FC Dallas advance to the Round of 16, where they'll travel to the Big Apple to battle the New York Red Bulls later this month.

Dallas got off to a quick start with a goal from Acosta in the third minute. Shaq Moore sent in a cross to the top of the penalty area where Acosta was able to get on the end of and find an open shot for the game's first goal.

AV Alta tied the game up in the 16th minute on a fluky goal from Osvaldo Lay. After a turnover in the AV Alta defensive end, Lay took one touch from behind the midfield line and lofted a shot that took a weird bounce in the penalty area and beat Michael Collodi.

Shortly before halftime, FC Dallas regained the lead off Kaick's first goal in a Dallas uniform. Acosta laid the ball off to Tsiki Ntsabeleng, who then quickly played a pass into the penalty box. Kaick took the opportunity and fired a shot into the far post.

AV Alta had a decent chance in the 64th minute to tie the match on a free kick that was only a couple of feet from the penalty box. Walmer Martinez curled a shot around the Dallas wall that forced Collodi to make a diving save.

In the 72nd minute, Bernard Kumungo doubled the Dallas lead off a quick counter attack. Show got the ball on the left side of the penalty area and played a perfectly weighted ball across the goal for Kamungo to finish.

Instant Reaction: While the result is something FC Dallas needed at home, the effort overall still was a bit lacking from the club. AV Alta had a lot of the ball, a lot of the chances, and at times, looked like the better team.

The difference on the night was FC Dallas making the most of the three big chances that they had in the AV Alta penalty area. Hopefully this is enough for FCD to carry over this weekend against RSL.

About the Subs: At halftime, Quill went to his bench to swap Show in for Shaq Moore. With about 30 minutes left, Pedrinho came on for Acosta. Diego Garcia finally made his FC Dallas debut on the season in the 75th minute, when he came on for Ntsabeleng. The final sub came in the last two minutes of the match as Tarik Scott came on for Kamungo.

Man of the Match: Kaick scored his first goal and showed well in this one.

Where does this fit into the season: Advancing is always something you want to see in this tournament. Now, FC Dallas will have a very congested road schedule at the end of this month when they head to New York for the next round before visiting Seattle and Cincinnati within an eight-day stretch.

What’s next for FC Dallas: The double-game week wraps up this weekend with FC Dallas hosting Real Salt Lake on Saturday night.
