FC Dallas couldn’t keep its recent momentum rolling on Wednesday night, falling 3-2 at home to the Vancouver Whitecaps.
Dallas struck first through Petar Musa, who converted an early penalty kick for his 11th goal of the season, but the lead didn’t last long. Vancouver answered ten minutes later with a strike from distance from Sebastian Berhalter and then an own goal credited to Osaze Urhoghide before the half hour mark.
Dallas responded minutes into the second half when Ran Binyamin set up Logan Farrington for the equalizer. But Berhalter and Vancouver responded again, as the US national team midfielder struck from outside the penalty area for the second time on the night. Dallas pushed for an equalizer late, but the comeback never fully materialized as the two-game winning streak came to an end.
Key Moments
1’ - POST! A good 20 seconds into the match, Dallas works the ball into the penalty box where Chris Cappis gets the ball at the near post and takes a quick attempt that rips off the post.
7’ - Penalty! Logan Farrington got brought down in the penalty area by Triston Blackmon.
10’ - GOAL! Musa steps up to the spot and hammers it into the right corner for his 11th of the season!
23’ - Goal Vancouver. Sebastian Berhalter ties it up on a rip from outside the penalty box. Cheikh Sabaly got the ball wide and then sent it back across the top of the penalty box for Berhalter, who was wide open to shoot from distance. Michael Collodi got a glove on the attempt but it was not enough to keep it out of the back of the net.
27’ - Goal Vancouver. A cross was put into the penalty box that was intended for Brian White. Osaze Urhoghide attempted to get a boot on it but his touch wasn’t on his side as it ended up in the back of the net.
47’ - GOAL!!! After knocking the ball around the field, Ran Binyamin got the ball on the left side of the penalty box. He took a touch before sending a ball into the penalty box where Logan Farrington was there to head the ball into the back of the net.
64’ - Goal Vancouver. Berhalter gets yet another banger from outside the penalty box. This time on the right side of the field, Dallas clears the ball wide where Kenji Cabrera collected the ball and found Berhalter running open to hit a one-time shot that beats Collodi at the back post.

Instant Reaction
This is what happens when you let a top team settle into a game, even one missing some of its biggest names. Dallas had its chances early on and got a dream start, but after the opening goal from Musa, the urgency in the midfield and defense seemed to fade enough for Vancouver to take over. Against a team that sharp, that is all it takes.
And once the Caps found their footing, they made Dallas pay for it. In truth, the home side was fortunate not to dig an even deeper hole before halftime. That is what makes the result sting a little more, especially with the long road trip now beginning this weekend in San Jose, against another team that is having a pretty damn good season of its own.
About the Subs
Shortly after the third Vancouver goal, Eric Quill brought on three subs in the 68th minute with Joaquin Valiente, Santiago Moreno and Sam Sarver. The trio replaced Ramiro, Ran Binyamin and Logan Farrington. The final two subs came in the 79th minute with Herman Johansson and Patrickson Delgado coming on for Kaick and Sebastien Ibeagha.
Man of the Match
Let’s roll with Farrington who set up the Musa penalty and then scored his fifth of the season.
Where does this fit into the season
The loss keeps Dallas on 19 points in 7th place. Given some other results on the night, Dallas likely won’t move out of that spot.
What’s next for FC Dallas
The weekend is coming up quickly for FC Dallas, as they begin the first of nine straight road games on Saturday when they visit the San Jose Earthquakes.
