Quick Notes:

Formation fits: Maybe it is the fact that the 3-4-3 or 5-3-2 last year never worked for FC Dallas, seeing a 4-2-3-1 with this group feels like a breath of fresh air. The two goals and one that Anderson Julio had that was called offside so that this group can play vertical and find chances on goal.

Oh Captain: With both Paul Arriola and Jesus Ferreira traded this winter, one of the smaller questions I had going into the preseason trip to Portugal was who would be the team's first captain on the field. Quill put that honor on keeper Maarten Paes. Honestly, I'm all for Paes wearing the armband this season.

Left or right: For now, I'm not dwelling too much on where Julio, Bernard Kamungo, Leo Chu, or even Pedrinho lined up today on the wings. I think we're going to see them play on both sides during this preseason camp as Quill sorts out where he sees as a best fit for his lineup.

Where's Moore?: For the folks wondering where Shaq Moore was today, he just joined the club in Portugal on Saturday after being with the US National team.

New faces in the defense: If you are wondering about that second half defense a bit, Josh Torquato is an academy player (U18) that is with the team in preseason camp. Given the lack of depth at left back, this could be a great place for a kid like him to earn a contract real quick. The other is Mo Cisset, the club's third round SuperDraft pick who apparently is impressing a lot so far from what I've been told. While he would cost the club an international roster slot, don't be shocked if he ends up with the first team.

Note: No word yet on who the trialist is in the second half roster. Chances are it is one of the players from Portimonense SAD (Portugeese 2nd division) who joined the team's training.
