After a season of turmoil on the road that saw FC Dallas only pick up seven total points outside of Frisco, FC Dallas has already eclipsed that mark in 2025 after picking up a 1-1 draw on Saturday night against Atlanta United.
Petar Musa scored his third goal of the season to help keep FC Dallas unbeaten on the road through four games this season.
Atlanta poured on the pressure early in the match, and it paid off 15 minutes in as Osaze Urhoghide was whistled for a foul in the penalty box on Latte Lath. Miguel Almiron stepped up to the spot and hammered home a penalty kick right with his left foot past Maarten Paes.
Atlanta nearly doubled its lead seven minutes into the second half as Almiron got on the end of a Stan Gregersen cross in the penalty box. Two Dallas defenders stepped in to block the shot to keep the game close.
At the hour mark, FC Dallas finally found its footing in the attack. Kaick picked the ball off in the attacking third and laid it off to Lucho Acosta. He quickly played a ball into Musa, who took a shot that was blocked, but the ball came back to his feet, and the Croatian fired the rebound into the top part of the goal past Brad Guzan.
Both teams pushed for game-winners in the final 30 minutes, but the best chance came from Atlanta as Seba Lobjanidze forced Paes to make a save at the near post in the 77th minute.
Instant Reaction: Handling a team like Atlanta in their building is never an easy thing to do. As much as it appeared that FC Dallas weathered the storm early on, it was a tough break on the penalty kick.
But FC Dallas responded well, once again. Eric Quill has certainly figured out his substitution patterns a bit more as the season rolls on. His three-man sub immediately lead to the Musa goal. Kaick was a big injection of energy in the middle of the field. Anderson Julio and Bernard Kamungo also brought a lot of decent play on the wings.
About the Subs: Quill went to his bench with three subs in the 58th minute as Kamungo, Kaick and Julio came on for Leo Chu, Sebastien Lletget and Patrickson Delgado. In the final moments of the match, Lalas Abubakar came on for Nolan Norris, then Logan Farrington came on for Musa.
Man of the Match: Musa with the winner and the honors tonight.
Where does this fit into the season: Unbeaten in four road games, FC Dallas will remain above the playoff line for another week. As of the final whistle tonight, they're in a five-way tie for 3rd place with 11 points. That will likely change by the time FCD returns home to Frisco in the morning.
What’s next for FC Dallas: The club returns home for its only home game in April, as they host Jesus Ferreira and the Seattle Sounders.
