FC Dallas finally put an end to its recent skid on Saturday night with their second road win of the season in New York.

After a quiet and largely uneventful first half, Dallas found the breakthrough after the break when Petar Musa scored his 10th goals of the season off Ran Binyamin’s first MLS assist. Sam Sarver then added a late insurance goal, his first goal in MLS, to seal a 2-0 win over the New York Red Bulls.

The victory marked Dallas’ first win in New York since the 2006 season. It also delivered the clubs’ third shutout of the year, giving the team a badly needed response after a four-game winless stretch.

Key Moments

30‘ - Dallas gets their first good look on goal was Joaquin Valiente gets into the penalty box with the ball. He then chipped the ball across the penalty area where Ran Binyamin was waiting to collect the ball. He took a shot that was saved.

54’ - GOAL!! On a quick transition, Binyamin got the ball near the top of the penalty box, he took a few touches to get past an defender and then slot it through to Petar Musa. The Croatian quickly struck the ball and beat the New York keeper at the far post.

Instant Reaction

In a way, this one mirrored the preseason meeting between the two clubs. Dallas had plenty of moments in and around the penalty area on the night and made the most of their two goals. New York rarely looked dangerous enough to threaten Michael Collodi and the rest of the defense. With two games coming up at home next, this group has to find a way to turn this win into some positive momentum.

About the Subs

Eric Quill went to his bench for the first time in the 68th minute, making a double sub by replacing Petar Musa and Ran Binyamin with Chris Cappis and Sebastien Ibeagha. Twelve minutes later, he made another pair of substitutions, this time sending on Logan Farrington and Sam Sarver for Santiago Moreno and Joaquin Valiente. Then, in the final minute of stoppage time, Homegrown midfielder Caleb Swann made his MLS debut when he came on for Kaick.

Man of the Match

Ran Binyamin put together a strong performance in his second start. His assist on Musa’s goal was a classy, well-weighted ball and another sign that he belongs in this group and gives Dallas something meaningful in the attack.

Where does this fit into the season

After a few rough weeks, this is exactly the kind of response Dallas needed. The three points pushed FC Dallas up to 16 on the season and kept the club in 7th place in the Western Conference. More importantly, it gave Dallas a chance to reset a bit before heading into a pair of home games.

What’s next for FC Dallas

FC Dallas will return home for the final two home games before a long away stretch, when they host Real Salt Lake next Saturday at Toyota Stadium.
