FC Dallas is set to face some of its biggest tests in the month of April. Not only will they play three of four games on the road (four of five if you peak into May), they’ll also contend with four playoff teams from a year ago, including one that has a certain ‘special’ player that won league MVP last year.
Yeah, this month is going to tell us a lot about Eric Quill’s club in 2025. They’ve managed to do well on the road so far this season but they haven’t faced teams quite like what they’ll see this month.
Let’s dive into the calendar to see where the points will come from and what we should expect this month.
Atlanta United - away - April 5
Going into halftime of FC Dallas’ game on Saturday, I saw Atlanta was down 3-0 to NYCFC and thought, “oh good, we’re playing them next week, we might have a shot.” Only to get home later that night from the game and see that the Five Stripes came from behind to win 4-3. Good lord, I do not want to face this team on the road right now.
Seattle Sounders - home - April 12
Jesus Ferreira returns on the Saturday before Palm Sunday. Hmm. If only it were a week later, this would have more fun to it. All jokes aside, Ferreira’s return to Frisco should be a bigger deal than it feels like it is right now. The Sounders have been in a bit of a bind due to injuries (one of those being Paul Arriola) and that classic post-CCC hangover. One win in six so far this season, FC Dallas has to find a way to win this one.
Minnesota United - away - April 19
You know who is doing well this season and not being talked about enough? Minnesota. As of this writing, they’re 3-1-2 on the season and looking like a solid playoff contender in the Western Conference. Some could say their strength of schedule hasn't been great so far this season, but this is a tricky team. Kelvin Yeboah has looked like the real deal as well since his arrival.
Inter Miami - away - April 26
I think it is fair to say that most fans (of FCD or not) locally wish this were in Frisco (...or at the Cotton Bowl again?). The chances of seeing Lionel Messi in Frisco again is probably insanely low. But as of this writing, the Herons are unbeaten through five games. We won’t know until next week as to whether or not they’ll still be in the CCC (which could see them have semifinal games the Tuesday/Wednesday after this match). Certainly something to keep a watch on as the month rolls on.
Outlook
Ouch, three of four on the road. We knew this stretch was going to be tough when the season schedule came out last year, but as it has gotten closer, it looks even rougher.
Yeah, we’ve seen FC Dallas go out on the road this season and earn seven points. But I don't think wins in Houston and Salt Lake will have the same effect around the league right now as say winning in Atlanta or Miami.
The Seattle games has to be a must-win, too. You can't lose any points at home right now with this many road games. But, if you can somehow pick up two or five points from those three road games, I think you take it.
It's funny, eight points feels doable but also a stretch at the same time. What do you all think? Can FC Dallas survive this month without a big losing streak?
