Our 2024 FC Dallas player recaps continue with midfielder Sebastian Lletget.
Lletget finished the year playing the most minutes in a season since 2019. He was finally healthy to appear in 31 games and start 20 of those. Let’s dive into why this was one of his best season in MLS and what we can hope for out of him in 2025.
Stat breakdown
Before we get too deep into Lletget's stats from this season, I want to point out how much of a difference we saw between his 2024 and 2023 seasons:
This tells me a couple of things. One, a healthy Lletget is a good Lletget. And two, the team was so much better with him this season than last year when they saw him out with injuries.
I get that it is a fairly broad summary of what he has brought to the team over the last two seasons.
In 2024, his minutes were up by nearly 700 minutes from last year. He ended the year with the most assists in his career with seven assists. He scored two goals after hitting 18 shots with nine on goal. When he was on the field, he brought a positive 0.26 per 90 xG.
He added nine goal creation actions and 69 shot creation actions. He added a career-high 44 key passes, 115 progressive passes and 82 of those were in the attacking third of the field.
Defensively, he was pretty solid as well. Lletget had 33 tackles, 19 blocks, 13 interceptions, and 29 clearances.
Highlight
The veteran only had a pair of goals this season, so we’ll go with this header from the club’s only road win in D.C.:
This was easily Lletget’s best game this season, too. He ended the night with a goal and two assists.
But let’s also pull in one of his assists. He was one of the primary free kick takers, mostly on corner kicks with ones like this in a win over Portland:
What should we expect from him in 2025?
Lletget is going to be one of the club’s leaders again in 2025. He’ll be 33-years old and if he can remain healthy like he was in 2024, we should see similar numbers next season.
A lot of that will depend on who the manager is and what kind off formation is being used on a weekly basis. Lletget seemed to work well in most of the formations that the club ran in 2024, but was mostly at his best when he was a linking player between the defensive group and the attacking group.
Final thoughts
If I were to hand out some end-of-season awards, Lletget would easily be in the running for the club’s MVP award for me. I get that Petar Musa ran away with things in terms of goals scored, but I did feel that when Lletget was able to run things in the midfield for the team, the entire club was better for it in 2024. We may have not been able to see that enough in 2024 due to the heavy rotation in different formations, the coaching change in the midseason and injuries to other key players.
With regards to Lletget, I feel like I have said this before, but next year is going to be a big one for him. He’s a TAM player, so expectations are always going to be higher for him.
We need him to be the leader that we saw him be in 2024, and we need his output to remain similar to 2024, if not better next season. Historically, Lletget is a two-to-five goals and two-to-six assists a season type of player. Ideally, he doesn’t dip below his 2024 tallies for either one next year.
