The World Cup break for Major League Soccer is going to be wrapping up soon, and with that FC Dallas will return to the pitch. As they do it, the summer transfer window will be opened up through the beginning of September.

FC Dallas currently sits in 4th place in the MLS Western Conference, which means the team isn’t in a selling mode with an eye on the 2027 sprint season just yet. Instead, this summer needs to be about solidifying what is currently there and making improvements that will make the most impact for the club’s playoff push this fall.

Good teams in this league don’t remain complacent, and just because the record looks nice on paper right now, there are still a couple of areas that could be better. With the summer transfer window opening up on today, let’s look at three key items that the club should be focusing on improving.

Fullback: A Nice Problem to Have, But Still a Problem

Bernard Kamungo working his way back from injury in recent weeks should solve half of the fullback equation on its own. That’s not depth being added, that is a solid starter returning. Pair him with either Shaq Moore or Herman Johansson on the right side, and it may seem silly to think about adding more to the fullback spots.

Here’s the catch: we don’t know what formation head coach Eric Quill is going to land with when play resumes in late July. He shifted to a 4-4-2 for the final few weeks of the spring before the World Cup, with guys like Ran Binyamin filling in along the wings. But if he shifts back to a 3-4-3 to get guys like Kamungo back on the field, the depth at fullback is still a bit of an issue. We’re talking a pulled muscle away from being a problem.
