Our 2024 FC Dallas player recaps continue with midfielder Patrickson Delgado.

FC Dallas added Delgado ahead of the 2024 season, as he came in on loan from Independiente del Valle.

Stat breakdown

Delgado appeared in 23 games this past season for FC Dallas, 14 of which were starts. He scored four goals and added two assists. Like most of the roster, he got hit with the injury bug this season and missed several games during the summer stretch.

Deglado ended the year with 37 shot creation actions, 18 key passes, three goal creation actions, with a 1.6 total xG. He contributed 17 total shots with seven on target (41% shots on target percentage).

Defensively, Delgado does bring some solid defensive numbers to the table. He had 22 interceptions, 13 clearances, 17 blocks, and 24 tackles.

Highlight

Delgado had a few good ones to pick from, but this strike from distance against LAFC was fun to watch from the build-up play to his finish.

The goal came in what I felt was arguably his best game in a Dallas uniform this season.

Should we expect him back in 2025?

For starters, Delgado’s loan ends at the end of this calendar year. So, if the club wants to retain him, they must purchase him from Independiente del Valle. We don’t know what kind of fee will be associated with a purchase, but FC Dallas would be wise to work it out. This would trigger him into the open U22 slot* that the team has available for next season.

Final thoughts

Many of us were pleasantly surprised with what we got from Delgado this past season. Injuries certainly played a part in keeping him from getting to where he probably would have gone (i.e., a slot on the league’s 22 Under 22 list).

The main thing that I liked about Delgado and what he brought to the club was his versatility. He could be slotted in a number of positions, either as an attacking midfielder to help set up the attack or as a supporting midfielder to link the defense with the attack.
