Our 2024 FC Dallas player recaps continue with attacker Eugene Ansah.

For all of the promise he showed in the 2023 Leagues Cup, it just didn’t work out for him in 2024. Ansah finished the season with one goal in a little over 400 minutes played. While some may look at the 2024 FC Dallas season and assume he was one of the players who dealt with injuries when they see that minutes played number, he was rarely out for injuries.

Stat breakdown

For starters, he had one goal and one assist.

When Peter Luccin took over the club in early June, Ansah’s role was relegated behind the likes of Logan Farrington on the depth chart. He only earned one start under Luccin, and he only made the bench in four out of the last nine games of the season following the Leagues Cup. And since the middle of July, Ansah never played more than 20 minutes in a match.

Because of those limited minutes, he doesn’t get a fancy chart from Fbref.com.

Still, we can pull up some other stats from his limited run this season. He had 13 shots, with seven of those coming on target. His passing was a bit tough to gauge as he only had a 78% passing accuracy off 70 successful passes. Possession-wise, he only touched the ball 165 times in 2024 and was dispossessed seven times.

Highlight

Well, Ansah only had a single goal and that is the lone highlight we can share today:

Should we expect him back in 2025?

I discussed this in our recent GM game results, and I didn’t feel Ansah’s high salary (he’s got a TAM salary without being a TAM player) was something FC Dallas should keep moving forward. It is hard to get overly excited about a player who rarely starts, earns a TAM-level salary and only contributes one goal and one assist in 400-ish minutes of play.

If the club is truly set on rebuilding the defense, shedding Ansah’s salary is a good place to start.

Final thoughts

I know some out there believe Ansah is one of the players the club should have used more in 2024. And in a way, they’re probably right. He does have some qualities that could help him thrive in the right setup. We saw in brief moments in 2023 that he could do well here.

But he’s never going to beat out Petar Musa for the starting striker job, and I would say that Farrington eclipsed him in the depth charts as well this season. Perhaps another MLS side will take a flyer on him in the same way that FC Dallas did last year.
