FC Dallas is off to its best road start in a regular season since 2017, when they picked up nine points in their first four games.

Yeah, eight points in four road games feels like a monumental improvement over the team from a year ago that only picked up seven in 17 games away.

Saturday’s 1-1 draw was a good barometer test for me with how this club can handle quality attacking groups like what Atlanta United has at their disposal. Yes, they were under a ton of pressure at times and looked vulnerable. Thankfully, they managed to plug enough of the holes in the back to be able to bring home some another point.

Let’s get into some key points from this draw as we move forward in this road-heavy month for FC Dallas.

Quill’s subs make instant impact

There really is something to be said about how quickly FC Dallas manager Eric Quill has learned from what he called his mistakes after the loss to Chicago earlier this season. He took that loss squarely on the chin for how he subbed players in and out in that match.

Saturday in Atlanta has shown that he has learned well from those previous mistakes. He and his staff didn’t get the response they had hoped for to begin the second half, after being down a goal thanks to a penalty kick from Miguel Almiron early in the first half.
