I’ve been meaning to get to my “areas FC Dallas needed to focus on this summer” piece and addressing the goalkeeper depth was actually going to make that list. But in all honesty, it wasn’t going to be a high spot on my list. I thought getting another depth piece as the third keeper in the system made sense due to how well both Michael Collodi and Jonathan Sirois have played this season.
Adding a keeper like Daniel is very intriguing. He’s got a green card, so there won’t be any need to trade for an international roster slot to add him.
In terms of salaries, the Brazilian keeper isn’t cheap. He earns nearly $800k in total compensation, though his current contract runs through the 2026 season with options for the next two years. We will have to wait and see what kind of details emerge on this trade to see if San Jose is taking on any of Daniel’s salary.
For me, it looks like Dallas is possibly adding him as either a short-term rental for the rest of this season. Though, I could see this as one that could be also for next year’s sprint season in 2027.
Currently this season, the 32-year old has started 14 games and has picked up 5 clean sheets and 46 saves.
