The seemingly never ending transfer rumor for FC Dallas winger Alan Velasco continues into the New Year. Argentine giants Boca Juniors have been making their pitch to FC Dallas since the beginning of December.
FC Dallas has reportedly already turned down one offer from Boca, but Boca have now come back with an improved offer.
Multiple reports out of South America have hit the web in the last day that Boca Juniors has upped their offer to around $10 million. Now, Give Me Sport's Tom Bogert is adding his sources to the mix.
But wait, there is more to this one. Another club has also entered the mix?
That's right, Boca Juniors isn't the only team in the Velasco sweepstakes. Club Estudiantes de La Plata is now said to be entering the mix of teams looking to add Velasco this winter.
BDS Take
Where there is smoke, there is fire. Right?
That is how this one is starting to feel as we enter preseason this weekend for the club. I'm told the club is expecting Velasco to be with the team at the start of preseason, but this could be an interesting element to keep a watch on as the team prepares for the upcoming season.
I think it is fair to say that if he doesn't report to camp, there is a very good chance we won't see him in a Dallas uniform this season.
I know I have been bullish on his return in 2025 as one of the club's leaders, but if the offers end up in the $10 million range for him, I can't blame FC Dallas for taking the money and opening up even more flexibility to their roster (though it does leave a GIANT hole in the attack to figure out for a second season in a row).
As this story unfolds, we'll keep you all updated.
