What is the old saying, someone’s garbage is another man’s treasure?

As we begin to dive deeper into the MLS offseason, teams have revealed their roster decisions as to who will or won’t return to their respective clubs in 2025.

In some cases, the players below are already in discussions with their teams to return in 2025 (similar to what FC Dallas is doing with a few players). But should those talks fall through, FC Dallas should take a serious look at a few of these players to help with their rebuild efforts for next season.

Here are a few players who can help rebuild FC Dallas’ defense and could be solid additions to the club in 2025.

Lalas Abubakar (defender, Colorado Rapids)

This one will all come down to whether or not he returns to the Rapids, as the two sides are in discussions for his return to the Mile High City. He’s not cheap, but he is likely the TAM-level center-back we keep discussing. So, he won’t be cheap if he were to be available.

But, if he opts to go through the Re-Entry Draft instead, he’ll be a pretty interesting target to see clubs go after. He’s right in that prime sweet spot in terms of age (29) and talent. He’ll also bring some more athleticism to the defense and could pair well with both Sebastien Ibeagha and Nkosi Tafari.
