It felt like the offseason really got going earlier this week when FC Dallas announced its roster moves. We learned who was picked up for next year, let go, and who is still in talks about returning to the club.
I've already spent some time breaking down the moves in terms of what they mean, how much salary cap space the club could be working with this winter and what we should expect next.
Today, we're going to hand out some grades. I've done this at the beginning of most off seasons in recent years. This will be a full look at the moves going into the 2024 season, the ones throughout the season and this week's roster decisions.
Before we get into the grades, I will point out that for several players (both incoming and outgoing), I will have two grades for them this time around. After writing out thoughts for everyone, it was pretty clear that I needed to separate the players’ time with FCD and those who also had time with NTSC, or on the outgoing part, the time with FCD and the move to see them go.
Okay, let’s dive into the grades.
Incoming
Enes Sali - U22 signing from FCV Farul Constanta
Thoughts: We were told on day one by the club that they were going to take their time with Sali. We thought when the club got into the Leagues Cup that we would see him a bit more with FC Dallas. He made the bench for one of those matches and got two minutes of time in a loss to FC Juarez.
The Romanian-Canadian international was expected to spend most of his time this year with North Texas SC. With the MLS NEXT Pro squad, he’s been pretty stellar. He’s was third on the roster in scoring (eight goals), tied for most assists (five assists), and he’s led the team in total shots. Also, he had a pretty stellar game-tying goal in the team's title run against Philly.
Grades:
Time with FC Dallas: D-
Time with NTSC: A
