The hot start to the 2025 regular season continues for the Vancouver Whitecaps, as they downed FC Dallas 1-0 on Saturday evening at Toyota Stadium. With the win, Vancouver moved to 4-0-0 on the season.
FC Dallas struggled to gain any traction on offense, as they finished the match with zero shots on target, while giving up nearly 60% of the possession to the Caps.
Both teams spent the first half hour of the match feeling one another out. The Whitecaps had one of the game's first chances on goal in the 24th minute, as Ali Ahmed and Mathias Laborda played a quick combination with one another around the right side of the Dallas penalty box. Ahmed played a ball across the Dallas six-yard box that Brian White missed at the back post.
Vancouver broke the deadlock less than nine minutes into the second half as Tristan Blackmon broke free past Marco Farfan into the penalty box and headed home an open attempt at the back post from Pedro Vite.
Dallas tried to push forward late in the match for an equalizer, but nearly every pass into the Vancouver penalty area was met by a Whitecaps player.
Instant Reaction: While last week was a collapse, this week was more of a flat footed effort. Vancouver took advantage in the first half with a lot of possession, that eventually turned into chances on goal. It also seemed like every little pass through the midfield that Dallas tried to do was met with a Vancouver deflection, interception or block.
About the Subs: Shortly after the Vancouver goal, Eric Quill went to his bench to pull off Pedrinho for Bernard Kamungo. In the 71st minute, Tsiki Ntsabeleng came on for Sebastian Lletget. The final two subs came in the 82nd minute as Patrickson Delgado came on for Logan Farrington, while Lalas Abubakar made his FC Dallas debut when he came on for Ramiro.
Man of the Match: It is really hard to pull out any one of note in this one, Shaq Moore was better defensively but that was maybe it.
What’s next for FC Dallas: The club heads back out on the road next weekend as they visit Real Salt Lake.
