FC Dallas and Nashville SC Play to a Forgettable Scoreless Draw

FC Dallas and Nashville SC played to a 0-0 draw at Toyota Stadium in a match short on chances, short on shots, and short on late drama despite a red card to Matthew Corcoran.

After a lively season opening win over Toronto a week ago, FC Dallas followed that up with a dull scoreless draw with Nashville SC.

The two sides combined for a total of three shots on goal on the night in a match that never really found any rhythm. The game only got lively late when former FC Dallas academy midfielder and current Nashville SC player Matthew Corcoran picked up a second yellow card.

Despite the late man-advantage, FC Dallas continued to struggle to create quality chances.

Key Moments

45’ - Big chance by Petar Musa. The Croatian got the ball at the top of the penalty area with a clean look on goal. But his attempt was saved by Brian Schwake.

82’ - FC Dallas lobbied for a penalty after Daniel Lovitz stretched out for a ball in the penalty area on Chris Cappis shot. The ball clearly hit Lovitz’s arm before he cleared the ball out.

84’ - Red card! Nashville’s Matthew Corcoran picked up a second yellow card.

90’ - Big chance saved by Schwake! Anderson Julio took a low shot from outside the penalty area that forced Schwake to make a diving save.

Instant Reaction

I think FotMob’s match momentum sums this one up pretty well. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a flatline quite like this from a match.

Even if that momentum meter is wrong, it won’t be far off of that. Dallas had a couple of decent moments, but never really broke free into Nashville’s penalty area. Sure, there is an obvious handball late in the game that could have changed this outcome in a big way. But sometimes those kinds of bounces don’t go your way.

About the Subs

Just after the hour mark, Eric Quill turned to his bench for the first time, pulling Bernard Kamungo and Patrickson Delgado. Deedson replaced Kamungo, while Joaquin Valiente made his MLS debut in place of Delgado. About ten minutes later, Logan Farrington and Herman Johansson were swapped out for Anderson Julio and Sam Sarver. In the closing minutes, Ramiro entered for Chris Cappis as Dallas searched for a late spark

Man of the Match

While the attack was quiet on the night, Osaze Urhoghide had himself a solid outing in the Dallas defense. He not only kept Hany Mukhtar at bay, but he was a force at keeping Nashville from getting clean looks on goal.

Where does this fit into the season

Four points from two home games is a decent start to the season. It weirdly mirrors where this club was at this point last year. Those were just four points from two road games. Next week’s first road trip will be a true test of this group.

What’s next for FC Dallas

FC Dallas hits the road for the first time this year, as they travel to Southern California to battle LAFC next Saturday.
