FC Dallas has acquired goalkeeper Brooks Thompson on loan from USL Championship side Lexington SC through June 2026 with a club option for a permanent transfer.

Thompson was on the bench for FC Dallas for their final preseason match last weekend against Atlanta United, which was canceled after five minutes due to heavy rain.

The Jefferson, Indiana, native made 19 appearances across all competitions for Lexington SC in 2025, recording nine shutouts. Thompson also made 35 appearances on loan in USL League One with Spokane Velocity and North Carolina FC, advancing to back-to-back USL League One finals and winning the 2023 USL League One title with North Carolina FC.

Thompson began his career at IMG Academy before joining the Sporting Kansas City Academy in 2018. As an academy player in 2019, he made his professional debut with Sporting Kansas City II in the USL Championship. He signed his first professional contract with Sporting Kansas City in 2021.

Quick BDS Take

For those who have been like me and have wondered if the club would add a third keeper before the start of the regular season, here we go.

While this loan is only through June, I do wonder if there is a chance that we may not end up seeing Thompson play a single minute with the first team. And that is fine, as this is purely an addition to the depth in goal after all. Thompson shouldn't be expected to be a contributor in goal, as he is more of an insurance policy for the first half of the season.

Still, Thompson has a solid record in the lower divisions, including his title-winning season with North Carolina FC in 2023.
