For more than 80 minutes on Saturday night, FC Dallas did just about everything right except find the back of the net. The chances were there, the defensive pressure was relentless, and the San Jose Earthquakes struggled to find any meaningful rhythm.

Then the floodgates opened.

Three goals after the 80th minute, including two from Petar Musa, turned a frustrating evening into a statement 3-0 victory at Toyota Stadium. Santiago Moreno also found the back of the net in stoppage-time as Dallas picked up another important result in its push for playoff positioning.

For head coach Eric Quill, the late scoring explosion was merely the finishing touch on what he believes was his team’s best overall showing of the season.

“I thought this was probably our most complete performance,” Quill said. “If you look at the stats, the expected goals we conceded were minimal, while ours were very high. We dominated attacking and defensive set pieces. Our front-half pressure was suffocating, and what we ask of these guys isn’t easy.”

That pressure was evident throughout the night. Dallas repeatedly disrupted San Jose’s attempts to build out of the back, with Osaze Urhoghide, Shaq Moore and Sebastien Ibeagha stepping forward to win individual battles and create opportunities in transition.

“From start to finish, we allowed them no space,” Quill explained. “We were on top of them every time they played the ball into someone’s feet. Osaze, Shaq and Ibeagha were physically impressive tonight, stepping up and winning those duels.”

The defensive work created opportunities going forward, but Dallas struggled to turn its dominance into goals during the opening 80 minutes. Rather than allowing that frustration to take over, Quill’s side continued pressing until the breakthrough finally arrived.

“The guys found their moment and delivered when it mattered most,” Quill said. “This was a team effort, and these players deserve all the credit and excitement in that locker room.”

Musa Delivers When Dallas Needs Him Most

When FC Dallas needed someone to break the deadlock, it turned to the player who has delivered throughout the season.

Musa scored twice in the closing stages, continuing his remarkable scoring campaign and once again demonstrating why he has become such a vital piece of Dallas’ attack.

The opening goal was a perfect example of the attacking connections Quill has been looking to develop. Santiago Moreno played a ball through the San Jose defense to Bernard Kamungo, who found Musa near the top of the penalty area for the finish.

“That goal ignited us, and we needed it,” Quill said.

For Musa, the goals were another reward for the collective effort that has helped Dallas climb the Western Conference standings.

“We know what’s at stake. They were chasing us, and we knew how important it was to win today,” Musa said. “We had to step up from the first minute and put in the effort we showed tonight.”

Despite adding two more goals to his impressive season tally, the Croatian striker was quick to credit his teammates.

“I’m happy to score two goals, but this is a reward for the whole team,” Musa said. “My teammates help me and try to find me with the ball every game, and I’m grateful for that.”

That chemistry was particularly evident in the combination between Moreno, Kamungo and Musa. Kamungo explained that the play came from understanding Moreno’s tendencies and recognizing when to make his run behind the defense.

“As soon as I saw him in that space, I was ready to make the run,” Kamungo said. “Once he looked forward, I took off, he played me through, and I was able to pass it to Musa, who had an amazing finish.”

Moreno Makes His Mark Off the Bench

While Musa continued his scoring exploits, Moreno provided another encouraging moment for Dallas with a goal of his own.
