For 80 minutes, it seemed that FC Dallas was destined to drop valuable points at home in a draw with the San Jose Earthquakes. Chances were happening, but the end result seemed to be alluding Eric Quill’s club on the night.
But then Petar Musa got the ball where he is most dangerous. And the game was pretty much in FC Dallas’ corner. A frustrating draw turned into a thunderous win that saw Dallas finish the night in second place and a single point back from first in the Western Conference.
Let’s discuss the result and what it all means.
Most complete performance
“Nights like that can be frustrating, but what I love about this group is its resilience. The guys found their moment and delivered when it mattered most. This was a team effort, and these players deserve all the credit and excitement in that locker room. I hope they enjoy tonight, but we have to get back after it.” - Quill on the game
If we had a full week to really dive into this game, you’d probably hear this phrase a lot. This was possibly Dallas’ most complete performance of the season. And it coming this late in the season after the club clinched a playoff spot is perfect timing.
And yes, this one was left very late.
Dallas controlled this one from the jump. Outside of maybe a couple small moments, San Jose never truly threatened Dallas, even with a guy like Timo Werner.
The chances were there multiple times on the night and for the most part, it seemed like as good as the chances were, the finishing was lacking.
The go-head goal was what this group was lacking for 80 minutes or so. Santiago Moreno played a perfect long ball to Bernard Kamungo. As much as I get frustrated with how Kamungo handles things inside the penalty area, he wisely made a great play to make a defender miss and pull a second defender over before laying it off to Petar Musa to do the rest.
