FC Dallas appeared well on its way to another important road victory Saturday night in North Carolina. Petar Musa scoring his club-record 19th goal of the season, breaking the single-season goal scoring mark held by him and three other club legends. Dallas built a solid 2-0 lead and looked on their way to extending its unbeaten run to seven games. Instead, reality set in and Dallas coughed up three late goals for one of the more frustrating results of the season.

Charlotte FC stormed back with three unanswered goals, including one in stoppage time to snap the six-game unbeaten Run.

So what exactly went wrong on Saturday? Let’s dig into the game, as well as some positives to reflect on.

65 minutes of good, 25 minutes of very bad

I don’t know if any of you are like me, but there are weekends where I go into an FC Dallas match and I just have a gut feeling on how things will go. For whatever reason, Saturday I kept thinking that this was a game Dallas was going to drop.

Yeah, I know. For the first 60-70 minutes, I was proven way wrong with that feeling. Eric Quill put out a starting lineup that was slightly rotated with Patrickson Delgado and Lalas Abubakar earning their first starts in a few weeks, while Petar Musa, Bernard Kamungo and Ran Binyamin were all on the bench after heavy travel during the international window.

By and large, the first half was mostly FC Dallas. The movement on and off the ball was there and the first goal (which I’ll dive into a bit more in a bit) was excellent. Pure class all around on that one.

The second half saw more of the same with Musa and Santiago Moreno coming off the bench. Both immediately made an impact with what turned into Musa’s 19th goal of the season.
