There’s a moment in every MLS season when you can feel the schedule tighten around you like a vice. For FC Dallas, that moment is right now.
The Burn return home to Toyota Stadium this Saturday for one of the most important stretches of the first half of their 2026 campaign. After a four-game winless streak that threatened to derail everything the early season had built, Dallas snapped it with a statement performance in New York and now bring that energy back to Frisco.
Standing in their way is a Real Salt Lake side that has been quietly one of the most compelling and dangerous teams in the Western Conference all year.
Here’s what we’ll be watching for tomorrow night.
Stopping RSL’s kids before they light you up
Look, at this point you have to tip your hat to Pablo Mastroeni. Going into the season, I had RSL pegged as a team that would take a heavy dip down the standings due to injuries in 2025, the lack of big names on the roster and a lack of spending. But Mastroeni took a group of young players and didn’t just make it work, he’s making a lot of people, like myself, look like fools around the league.
Diego Luna has been picking up steam with every game he’s played this season. He’s got three goals and three assists through seven games as he’s worked back to full fitness. And all of that is on the weight of a World Cup selection that is hanging over his head this month. With World Cup rosters due at the end of the month, Luna is making the most of every touch he’s had on the ball this season.
Then there is Zavier Gonzo, who at 19-years old is already a problem for most clubs. He’s got three goals and four assists on the season. To cap all off that off, they have another young player, Sergi Solans, who is leading them in scoring this season with five goals.
Dallas has the experience to teach the kids a thing or two this weekend. While RSL has played well this season, they’ve struggled against good defenses like Vancouver and LAFC. Dallas has to take those blueprints and run with it.
Most FC Dallas coverage gives you a score and a quote. Big D Soccer gives you the why — the tactical breakdowns, the honest assessments, the context that actually helps you understand what you watched from each match. If you're serious about this club, you should be reading all of it.
Don’t waste the momentum from NY
Last week’s win in New York wasn’t just three points. It was a statement wrapped in a clean sheet, tied up with a bow made of historical redemption.
Yeah, Dallas earned its first win in New York since the Bush Administration (2006). Petar Musa added his 10th goal of the season, the defense limited the Red Bulls’ chances in front of the net, and at the end of the day, you could argue it was one of the best performances of the season to date.

The problem with momentum in MLS is that it can evaporate fast if you don’t feed it. Dallas has had a couple of truly complete performances this season, but they’ve all come on the road. They have to find a way to put it all together at home this weekend. To do so, they’ll need to:
- Start the game strong
- Limit the careless mistakes in the final third that have cost them points
- Be as efficient in front of net
If Dallas can bottle up what they did in New York and figure out how to translate it in front of the home crowd, we could be talking about a new streak here before the World Cup break.
