There are “super subs,” and then there is whatever the hell Sam Sarver is becoming for FC Dallas right now.
In a match that already had everything from an opening goal inside the first minute, a penalty kick save from a debut goalkeeper, multiple blown leads, and a playoff-level atmosphere on the road. Sarver once again delivered the final punch in stoppage time to give FC Dallas a massive 3-2 win over the San Jose Earthquakes.
And honestly? At this point, it is starting to feel less like luck and more like a legitimate weapon for Dallas to lean on late in matches.
Following the match, head coach Eric Quill, who had to watch from the stands due to a red card suspension that he picked up in the midweek loss to Vancouver didn’t hold back when discussing his young forward’s impact.
“The kid is electric,” Quill said. “He knows how to score goals, he knows how to be in the right spot, and his pace is high level. His efficiency in front of goal is top class.”
That efficiency showed up again in the dying moments of Saturday’s match that was the start of a nine-game road trip for FC Dallas.
