Big D Weekly - June 10
A road point isn't bad but it is definitely not enough for FC Dallas these days.
Well, I’ll be completely honest: I had a completely different intro written for this week’s newsletter until last night. Nico Estevez's departure was not on my bingo card for the night.
In some ways, this is fine. FC Dallas absolutely needs to make some changes here this summer, and based on the poor results on the field, Estevez was always going to be one of the first chips to fall. I hope to dive into who else might be next with the club and the coaching candidates that may be out there for the team to look at this summer.
But, for now, we’re into a new era with this team. Again.
I’ll dive into Saturday’s draw in Minnesota at some point today on this space, but that may prove to be a bit of a worthless exercise now that we’ve had a coaching change. Maybe we’ll get some positives out of it. We’ll see.
Note: Today is the final day to vote for the MLS All-Star XI. FCD keeper Maarten Paes is currently leading the voting in the keeper pool. Let’s get him over the finish line!

📋 From Around MLS
Most of MLS was off this past weekend due to the international break, but FC Dallas was one of eight teams in action. New England picked up a big win over New York, while Sporting KC finally clawed out from the bottom of the West with a win over Seattle. Lastly, Portland and St. Louis played to a scoreless draw.
The long-awaited arrival of Mexican star Chucky Lozano to MLS is finally here. He signed a deal with expansion side San Diego to be their first Designated Player when they hit the scene next season. It is always a bold move for an expansion team to swing for the fences like this, but I like it.
If some Columbus fans wondered what happened to their side in the Concacaf Champions Cup final, maybe bad food was the reason.
It has been a big week in Atlanta as they bid farewell to their head coach and then began finalizing a transfer of one of their best strikers.
And lastly, a good story on the MLS Raccoon problem…or history.

Eek, don’t look at the standings now.
