For many years, anyone who follows Major League Soccer and a local team know that the roster building rules are…complex at best. Explaining what allocation money is to a casual fan isn’t just a headache, but it requires a law or finance degree at times to fully understand.
In 2024, MLS has finally began opening up to how clubs are able to build their rosters. Earlier this year, they released a roster profile for each club that was updated twice in the season (one in the spring and then one in the fall). They also revealed new roster construction models that teams have to follow. Now, we’re getting insight as to how much allocation money each team is working with ahead of this upcoming season in 2025.
MLS published the amount of General Allocation Money (GAM), a key part of roster-building in the league, possessed by each team. Each team’s amount of GAM is accurate as of December 10, 2024. This is the first time that this number has been made available for everyone to see, as the league has begun to increase its transparency with its roster rules.
