Lucho Acosta picked up two goals, while Peter Musa and Bernard Kamungo also found the back of the net in FC Dallas 4-2 win over a ten-man Sporting Kansas City.

Acosta found his first brace in a Dallas uniform, while Kamungo scored his first goal of the year.

The win was FC Dallas' fourth away victory this season.

Sporting got on the board early in this one thanks to a great effort from distance from Magomed-Shapi Suleymanov. The goal came eight minutes into the match after Dejan Joveljic laid the ball off to Suleymanov at the top of the penalty box and the Russian attacker curled the ball past Maarten Paes.

The hosts didn't keep the lead very long as Musa tied the game up with his fifth of the season three minutes later. Lucho Acosta dribbled through the middle of the Sporting defense and then played the ball wide to an open Shaq Moore, who immediately played the ball back across the ball for Musa to easily tap it into the back of the net.

Eleven minutes into the second half, FC Dallas began to work the ball up the field. Musa and Acosta had a quick back and forth that led to Acosta getting pulled down in the penalty box by Jansen Miller. The center official immediately pointed to the penalty spot. Acosta stepped up to the penalty spot and scored.

Three minutes after the Acosta goal, Sporting was reduced to ten men as Khiry Shelton picked up a second yellow card on a bad tackle on Pedrinho.

Dallas extended its lead in the 69th minute on another easy tap in by Bernard Kamungo. Musa had an attempt that was blocked by John Pulskamp but the rebound was there for Kamungo to find his first league goal of the 2025 season.

Acosta doubled up his tally on the night in the 82nd minute off a counter attack. Nolan Norris played Acosta through into the middle of the field where he was able to dribble down the field into the penalty box. He took a touch past Pulskamp and then fired it into the back of the net.

In the first minute of stoppage time, Sporting pulled one back on a goal from Santiago Munoz.

Instant Reaction: Games with Sporting are kind of weird, huh? Early on, this one seemed like it could be a battle that could end level. But, getting both Musa and Acosta on the scoresheet tonight was something this team really needed. Acosta really looked more like what we all thought we would see from him this season.

Also, nice debut for Alvaro Augusto tonight in place for Osaze Urhoghide/Lalas Urhoghide. He handled himself well against the press from SKC.

About the Subs: After getting the lead and the man advantage, Eric Quill went to his bench to bring on Nolan Norris and Bernard Kamungo for Pedrinho and Sebastian Lletget. Following Acosta’s second goal in the 83rd minute, Logan Farrington came on for Musa. In the final minutes of the match, Anthony Ramirez and Josh Torquato came on for Acosta and Anderson Julio.

Man of the Match: Acosta easily had his best night in a Dallas uniform.

Where does this fit into the season: As of this writing, FC Dallas is now on 21 points in 10th place.

What’s next for FC Dallas: The club will get another weekend off before returning home for a double-game week against San Jose and San Diego.
