FC Dallas wrapped up its road schedule on Saturday with a 1-1 draw against Sporting Kansas City, picking up another point as the club marches toward the MLS Cup Playoffs later this month.

This was a tricky trap game that should have gone Dallas’ way, but a missed penalty will rue the day of three points.

Let’s discuss the result and what it all means.

Playing down to the opponent

It has been a bit since we’ve truly played down to an opponent this season. Weirdly, it may have been the last time that FC Dallas played Sporting KC that we played down to our competition.

I know the lineup selection will probably be a big question for some in this one. No Petar Musa in the starting lineup, but outside of a bad moment before halftime, the starting group was holding their own and did well to dictate the pace of this game.

But this is what you’d expect when Shaq Moore and Nolan Norris are suspended. You get a defensive group that looks like what we saw on Saturday. That’s no knock to Lalas Abubakar or even Sebastien Ibeagha, but you see a drastic drop in play without a guy like Shaq Moore on the field.
