For most of Saturday night’s match against the San Jose Earthquakes, FC Dallas looked like a team that was doing just about everything right offensively except finding the back of the net. Then, in the final ten minutes, Dallas broke through with two goals from Petar Musa.
The late scoring burst was a fitting reward for a Dallas attack that controlled the quality of chances throughout the match.
Let’s dive into the stats for how this one played out.
xG Battle/Attacking numbers

Normally, I try not to get overly worked up on expected goals from each game. But this one was different as Dallas dominated this area.
Dallas generated between 2.41 and 2.55 xG (all depends on which stats provider you prefer), compared to a meager 0.30 xG for San Jose. That is a massive gap between the two teams that really exploded in the final ten minutes of the match, too.
Eric Quill’s side finished the game with five big chances, while San Jose failed to register a single one. Though, you could argue that Daniel robbing Ousseni Bouda of a one-on-one situation in the first half is a huge missed opportunity for the Quakes.
