After earning back some good vibes a week ago at Toyota Stadium, FC Dallas lost their eighth match of the season at home on Friday night, losing 4-3 to New York City FC.

Alonso Martinez had a hat trick in the win for the visitors. Logan Farrington scored his first brace in a Dallas uniform, while Petar Musa scored his fifth goal in the last three games.

FC Dallas nearly got on the board twenty seconds into the match. Petar Musa picked off a pass in the penalty area, but his shot was saved by Matt Freese. NYCFC responded and got on the board first off a corner kick goal in the 11th minute. Maxi Moralez curled a ball into the penalty area where Jonathan Shore was able to beat Shaq Moore at the near post to head a ball into the back of the net.

FC Dallas didn’t waste any time tying the game up as Musa scored his 12th of the season in the 15th minute. Patrickson Delgado played Musa a ball into the penalty area where he took one touch around a defender before firing off a shot to the far post, beating Freese.

Two minutes later, FC Dallas doubled its lead on a dead ball goal of their own as Ramiro found Logan Farrington on a long ball into the penalty area. Farrington opted to take a quick shot that went between Freese’s legs.

NYCFC managed to tie the game up in the 23rd minute off a miss-tackle in the penalty area by Lalas Abubakar. Maxi Moralez played a ball into Alonso Martinez who was able to get by Abubakar and tap home a shot past Maarten Paes.

Right before the halftime whistle, Dallas regained the lead. Moore played a ball into the penalty area that forced Freese to make a stop but Farrington met the rebound to score his second of the night.

A minute into the second half, the visitors tied it back up on Martinez’s second goal of the night. After Dallas turned it over in their attacking end, City quickly countered down the left side of the field as Hannes Wolf found Martinez open on outside the penalty area. He took a couple of dribbled before beating Paes at the near post.

Martinez completed his hat trick in the 84th minute. Nicolas Fernandez split the Dallas defense with a ball to Martinez and the City striker took one touch around Paes before firing the ball into the back of the net.

Instant Reaction: Geez, this game was drunk. Seven goals, five of them before halftime. As good as some things were tonight out of the attack, the defensive side of things was very poor. Maybe it is the 5-3-2 set up that doesn’t work. Maybe it is some regression out of Maarten Paes in goal (he was beat at the near post three times in this one, though Martinez is legit…).

With a week off coming up, this one stings a lot. This is now the most loses at home since the famous Southlake season of 2003.

Random Stat for the night: Ramiro had two assists for the first time in his MLS career.

About the Subs: The first sub of the night came after halftime, as Chris Cappis made his debut when he came on for Josh Torquato. In the 62nd minute, Eric Quill made two more changes by taking off Ramiro and Patrickson Delgado. He brought in Lucho Acosta and Sebastian Lletget in their place. After the second half hydration break, Marco Farfan came on for Osaze Urhoghide. The final sub came moments later as Sam Sarver came on for Farrington.

Man of the Match: Farrington’s two goal effort, or Ramiro’s two assist effort are pretty high for me.

Where does this fit into the season: Well, the loss keeps Dallas in the same position in the standings, 12th place before the weekend matches begin.

What’s next for FC Dallas: FC Dallas gets a small break going into August and will return to the field at home on August 9 when they host the Portland Timbers.
