FC Dallas hits the road for the second time this season, heading east to face D.C. United following an international break. Both sides should be well rested, reset and ready for this match as both begin to push for points in this early-season battle.
Road games like this are never about style points. They’re about showing maturity, discipline and taking control when the moments present themselves. D.C. United will look to turn this into a scrap if Dallas allows it.
Let’s dig into the Black-and-Red.
Potential Lineup & Tactic Style:
René Weiler’s D.C. United isn’t trying to be pretty this season, but they are looking to be effective in Weiler’s first season. This team will lean into physical and direct play, making life a bit miserable in the middle of the field.
Projected XI: Sean Johnson, Lucas Bartlett, Silvan Hefti, Kye Rowles, Keisuke Kurokawa; Matti Peltola, Caden Clark, Brandon Servania, Jackson Hopkins; Tai Baribo, Gabriel Pirani
- Offensive tendencies - It all flows through Baribo right now. If things dry up for him, as they did in Atlanta recently, the attack tends to struggle to create.
- Defensive shape - While the DC attack has struggled a bit out of the gates, the defensive side is near the top of MLS right now in defensive actions.

Key Player: Tai Baribo
The Israeli attacker came over from rivals Philadelphia in the offseason and has helped reshape the Black-and-Red attack. He's scored three of the four DC goals this season. If you limit his service in the penalty area, the way Atlanta did in their previous match, it goes a long way in slowing down their attack.

Key Matchup: Baribo vs Osaze Urhoghide
As Atlanta showed almost two weeks ago, if you shut down Baribo around the penalty area and limit his chances in front of the net, the DC attack dries up a good bit.

Three keys for FC Dallas
- Control the tempo early: D.C. Wants this game to feel chaotic. Dallas will need to slow it down a bit, keep their possession clean, and avoid turning this one into a track meet. The more composed Dallas is on the ball, the less dangerous the Black-and-Red are in this one.
- Win the midfield battle: This isn’t the game that you want Dallas to get pushed around in. The midfield has to match the physical play, win second balls and cut off the quick outlet passes. If D.C. starts winning loose balls consistently, Dallas could be in for a long night.
- Finish the chances in front of goal: D.C. would love for this game to be a low xG-type of affair. Chances may not come in droves for Dallas, but when they do get into good spots, they have to be clinical in and around the penalty area.
