On Wednesday, FC Dallas confirmed to the media that they would be participating in the 2026 Leagues Cup tournament. FC Dallas earned a placement in the tournament that goes head-to-head with Liga MX clubs, after finishing seventh place in the MLS Western Conference in 2025.

The question from there was whether or not the club was going to be also playing in the US Open Cup in 2026. Thursday’s release from the US Soccer Federation answered that question for the club, as they were not listed as one of the participating MLS clubs, despite qualifying for it (according to the club).

Big D Soccer reached out to the club to get word on their involvement in the tournament and received the following statement:

Dan Hunt’s Quote on Today’s Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Announcement

One of the proudest moments in our club’s history, and certainly one of mine, was winning the 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. We’re disappointed not to participate in the 2026 edition but our late-season push earned us a place in the playoffs and qualification for Leagues Cup in 2026 and we’re incredibly proud of this team. We look forward to competing for trophies across multiple competitions in 2026.

Quick BDS Take

Yeah, this sucks. There really isn’t any other way to put it. Based on how you all felt in the recent Fan Survey, you all would rather win the USOC than the Leagues’ Cup.
