FC Dallas announced on Thursday that rookie defender Enzo Newman tore the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee during a training session in April ahead of the club’s match in Minnesota.
According to the club, Newman successfully underwent surgery last week. There was no official time table given on his recovery, but given how most ACL injuries tend to take upwards of 8-10 months, we likely won't see Newman back any time soon in 2025.
FC Dallas selected Newman with the No. 11 overall pick in the first round of the 2025 MLS SuperDraft. He appeared in four matches with North Texas SC, FC Dallas’ MLS NEXT Pro affiliate, and made his professional debut on March 9, 2025, against St Louis CITY2.

Quick BDS Take
It is always disappointing to see a young player like this be dealt with this kind of setback so early into their MLS career. Newman was finding time on the FC Dallas bench before this injury happened in April, and would have likely seen some minutes in this week's US Open Cup match had he been available.
As we've discussed in our weekly injury reports, the depth at fullback is really thin at the moment. On Wednesday night against AV Alta FC, FCD manager Eric Quill subbed out Shaq Moore at halftime in order to give him some rest and opted to use Ramiro in that right back slot. For the most part, that worked out, but you can't rely on that for too many games here this season.
The club has not placed Newman on the team's season-ending injury report. That may not be needed given how his roster spot was on the supplemental side and wouldn't receive the same kind of benefits to replace him if he were a U22, TAM or DP.
