What we learned in FC Dallas’ win over Austin FC

The team may actually be peaking at the right moment.

FC Dallas picked up arguably their most important win of the season to date on Saturday, by downing former boss Nico Estevez and Austin FC 2-0.

Petar Musa scored his 15th goal of the season, getting him one step closer to the club's regular season record of 18 goals. Jacob Jackson also picked up the club's latest shutout, making it the first time in 10 years that FC Dallas has three goalkeepers pick up shutouts in a single season.

Overall, the game on Saturday was a lot of fun to rewatch, Let's dive into the notes from it.

All gas from the start

I've been waiting for FC Dallas to begin a game with some serious energy and momentum. From the second the match kicked off, FC Dallas had its foot firmly planted on the gas pedal and caught Austin off guard.

What I love about this (and the other goal for that matter) is how Jacob Jackson begins the play with a long ball. No wasting time to get things built up and just a full steam ahead into the attacking third.

FC Dallas manager Eric Quill said after the game to the media that he was impressed by how his team started this match and carried the energy throughout the entire game.

I feel like this is probably the best performance I've seen this year, from beginning to end on both sides of the ball. We had some great goals, chance creations, defended crosses beautifully and we showed commitment tonight. - Quill on the team's hot start

The combination play between Musa and Logan Farrington continues to grow and improve with every game. I think Quill has to start these two together for the remainder of the season if he can (provided that Musa doesn't get a yellow card accumulation suspension any time soon now that he is one away from it). They're quickly becoming the one-two punch this team has needed all season long.
