Getting back to a winning feeling is nice. We haven't had a ton of these moments in 2025 from FC Dallas, especially at Toyota Stadium.
The club's 3-0 win over St. Louis CITY SC was a must-win but a relief of a win nonetheless. It snapped a long winless streak at Toyota Stadium, as well as a winless run overall.
So, how did FC Dallas finally right the wrongs and get a positive result at home for the first time since March? Let's dive into some key aspects of the match and other notes from it.
New shape?
FC Dallas manager Eric Quill debuted this a bit against San Jose last week out of necessity. Both Pedrinho and Lucho Acosta were back in Dallas (for personal reasons or a suspension in Acosta’s case…though come this match both were still out 🤔).
Quill, went with a 5-3-2 or a 5-2-3 kind of formation depending on where the ball was. Against St. Louis, it compacted the middle a lot as you can see below.

Sebastian Lletget was played out wide at right back, while newly signed Homegrown Josh Torquato got his second straight start of the week on the left. Having that kind of wide play out of those two helped in the times that Dallas had possession (which wasn't a ton in this one). Kaick and Ramiro were tough to deal with in the middle of the field, which left Petar Musa free to roam a bit more instead of having to tuck back inside like we see him have to do when Acosta is on the field.
This shape worked for San Jose and it worked again on Saturday against St. Louis. Is it Quill's new formation? Maybe. His answer about it on Saturday was a little long but it is worth the read to see how he views it.
