Gritty. Battled. Aggressive.
If you were to ask me three words to describe Saturday's scoreless draw between FC Dallas and Minnesota United, it would probably be something along those lines.
Both teams are heavy possessors of the ball in 2025. That was clear in this one, too. A lot of the match spent in the middle of the field, with both teams looking to bust out a counter attack whenever they could to set up their respective attacks.
Like other scoreless results we've seen from this club, it wasn't always pretty. At least with the grittiness and aggression, it was entertaining to watch at times. Let's dive into this one a bit to talk about some key elements we picked up from the second shutout of the season.
As Urhoghide goes, so does the defense
I think I lost count at the amount of time over the last couple of seasons where I said FC Dallas needed a top-level center back on the roster. We’re talking a Matt Hedges in his prime, a Walker Zimmerman-type, or someone from Europe like Retro Ziegler. All are leaders both in the vocal sense and in how they played on the field
In the last year or two, the Dallas defense lacked a leader.
We’re seeing that and then some out of Osaze Urhoghide right now.
The guy, damn, the guy is a beast. Saturday in Minnesota proved that the Dallas defense is going to go as far as Urhoghide takes them.
