FC Dallas could be moving on from Designated Player and former MLS MVP Lucho Acosta sooner rather than later.
A new report from Tom Bogert broke on Tuesday evening that states the club has agreed to a deal with Brazilian side Fluminense for the Argentine playmaker.
🇦🇷🇧🇷BREAKING: On the Lucho Acosta situation, per sources.... 🤝 Agreement between FC Dallas and Fluminense over fee somewhere north of $3.5m + add-ons BUT personal terms not yet finalized. 👀 Close, but not done. TBD. Fluminense pushing. Dallas already accepted fee/terms, open to exit.

Acosta has appeared in 21 matches this season, scoring five goals and adding in one assist. A big dip in play from his previous seasons at FC Cincinnati.

Quick BDS Take
On paper, FC Dallas is going to take a small loss on this deal after paying around $4 million to secure Acosta from FC Cincinnati earlier this year. The personal terms are the minor hurdle that haven't been met yet, but with both clubs looking to get the deal finalized, that is a good sign.
As much as we all wanted a player like Acosta here, it never really worked. He and fellow DP Petar Musa never really clicked the way we expected them to, either. Toss in the fact that in recent weeks, he and the club haven't really been on the same page both on and off the field.
If you look at the recent moves made by the club, they've been bringing in guys that suit Eric Quill's style of play and are more in the mold of the types of players he likes to have on the field. Acosta and Quill never seemed to be on the same page either, but that can be a topic for another day.
There is still a chance this could fall through, but it is a positive sign in my book to see FC Dallas admit that this move was a mistake. Now, they need to correct it by landing another DP as soon as possible that can actually fit on this roster.
